Jaw Pain

Temporo-mandibular dysfunction or TMD

There is increasing evidence that physiotherapy is helpful in reducing pain & increasing jaw function in patients with TMDs. Physiotherapy is a conservative treatment, it does not invade the tissues of the face, jaw or joint, or involve surgery. It does not cause permanent change in the structure or position of the jaw or teeth.

Physiotherapist’s will use a combination of manual techniques, including joint mobilisation, massage and posture correction
Education will be provided on joint anatomy and function, pain psychology and contributing factors which trigger symptoms, advice on long term self-management strategies including joint and muscle stress reduction and home exercises will be provided.

Treatment of secondary issues which may be caused as a result of TMD will also be addressed during your appointment (cervical restriction and pain, headaches, postural problems)
